Mama : "girl, can you please buy something fancier? You keep wearing all of my clothes for your friend's open house and weddings. Beli sendiri punya la"
Me: " fine, ill look for something I like"
*After I have a look at a few places*
Me : " Ma, i like this one." * shows a plain cotton baju kurung*
Every single year my mum tries to get me to choose something fancier. But all of the ready made outfits are so darn fancy that I find it to be a little too much because :-
1) I usually spend my raya in the kitchen washing dishes or refilling food and drinks
2) Malaysia is so hot that I'll be all sweaty and uncomfortable if I wear chiffon or lace
3) Mum has HUNDREDS of slighty fancy tradional costumes that i can just borrow so why waste money?
So this year I tried my very best to choose something that isnt plain. When I saw this baju kurung, I ran to show it to my mum and then she slapped her forehead. Then she said " Well, at least this isnt plain...."
Tada! Its a little tribal-ish which I thought was different than all the flower power ones that I saw. Its still cotton though, which I did not regret since I did end up dripping in sweat by the end of the first day of raya!
Since we dont have a maid and my sister followed her husband back to Kedah , my workload doubled this year. I had to run up and down the house helping my mum in the kitchen and my dad with repairing the lights and stuff for the preparation. Which is why wearing a baju kurung helps. I cant imagine climbing up the ladders in a kebaya. looooll.
